Most of the homes we work in are Chicagoland houses that have earned their keep: a basement nobody has touched since it was poured, a bathroom on its second decade of the same tile, a staircase worn through to bare wood. Rather than move, the people who live there want the space to work — and to look like it was built that way on purpose.

That is the job. Demo, framing, tile, flooring, cabinetry, trim and paint, sequenced by one person who is on site and accountable for the result. One person plans it, one person runs it, and one person answers for it — which is what keeps the schedule and the final number where they should be.
